Frequently Asked Questions

Take a look at a list of common questions that baseball families have!

1. When will my kid(s) be assigned a team?
Registration completely ends on March 15th. We are in the process of assigning teams for coach pitch and tee ball, but will not be finished until after registration ends. You WILL receive an email once your team has been assigned. If your child is in the minors or majors division, teams will be assigned after draft night, which is tentatively scheduled for March 29th. Seniors Division begins soon after school baseball ends.

2. When does the season start?
We hope to have outdoor team practices begin after April Break, weather permitting. Games will hopefully start in the first couple weeks of May. We will have the schedules out for teams once all fields are confirmed and in playable condition. Coaches also have a say in their schedules based on their availability.

3. How long does the season go?
For tee ball and coach pitch, we typically run a 10 week program, with wiggle room for weather cancellations. Minors and majors divisions run for around 12 weeks, with the option for longer if your child is interested in and makes an all star team. A week typically looks like this:

Tee Ball: 1 Practice and 1 game per week

Coach Pitch: Two practices and 1 game per week. If weather messes with plans, we try to exchange a practice for a game when it comes to make-ups.

Minors/Majors: Varies by coach and field availability, but expect two practices and two games per week.

4. What does my child need to have?
Your child needs to have a baseball glove for all divisions. Cleats are needed for minors and majors, but shoes are acceptable for coach pitch and tee ball. RCLL provides each team with helmets, bats, and catchers equipment, however, you are more than welcome to purchase these things for your child. All bats MUST be USABat certified and have the stamp clearly marked on the bat. Seniors Division must be BBCOR certified. Baseball pants at the minors and majors level will be needed, but will be decided on by the coach of your team. Your child will receive a jersey and baseball cap and they get to keep those at the end of the season.

RCLL is committed to developing players for the future, which means getting kids used to wearing their equipment properly. Please make sure your child is wearing the proper attire and footwear to all practices and games. This includes their hat!!!!

5. Why does my minors/majors child have to do evaluations?
Little League requires evaluations for all children playing in minors and majors. This gives us the opportunity to make teams as even as possible during the draft based on the scoring given to each player.

6. What can my child do until practices start?
We have an indoor baseball facility at 92 Park Street in Rutland City. We allow 10 players per session with sessions split up between tee ball/coach pitch and Minors/majors. Please visit https://www.rutlandcountylittleleague.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2664565 to view the sign up links for the indoor facility.

7. What does the indoor facility have?
We have two batting cages, one with a pitching machine. The other cage can be used with coach pitching, soft toss, front toss, and tee use. We have hitting nets set up for hitting off a tee. There is an area for players to take ground balls and an area for heavy ball and resistance band use. Coming soon: Two pitching lanes!

8. What can I as a volunteer do to help?
If you have signed up as a coach or team manager, please visit the indoor facility link above and consider helping us at one of the indoor sessions. The indoor facility will only be open when we have enough coaches to run it. We have, and continue to upgrade the facility to allow us to work on more skills, and have more kids attend a session. We need your help!

9. How can I get more information?
Board Meetings are a great way to gain vital information. Once registered,  an email gets sent to everyone with the date/time and Zoom link for the meeting. Please consider attending a meeting to learn what we are working on leading up to the season. There are always opportunities to ask questions during the meeting. You may also email us at rutlandcountylittleleague@gmail.com. We will respond to you as soon as we can.
